“Entrepreneurs in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”
Diploma work on magnetotransport in soft amorphous ferromagnets (Zagreb, Croatia, 1977); Ph.D. Thesis on electronic properties of amorphous metals (1982) under Prof. J.S. Dugdale, at that time, the President of the Science Research Council of Great Britain. Following 3 years of research in the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Grenoble (France), where he has initiated successful research program on quasicrystals. Pavuna has joined EPFL in 1986. His most cited work (1988) is on remarkable electrical properties of Ag-cuprate mixtures; such compounds are now used in advanced superconducting technology. Since 1996, in an NSF(Bern)-supported project at the Synchrotron in Wisconsin, he and coworkers succeded in demonstrated direct photoemission spectroscopy on strained cuprate films with enhanced Tc ; numerous groups are now following this novel approach. His publications include more than 100 research papers, 18 reviews, 12 edited professional books, widely used textbook on superconductivity (with M. Cyrot, Grenoble). Pavuna has participated in teaching elementary physics, basic and advances courses on quantum fluids and properties of disordered solids. Since 2005 Pavuna is Professor of physics, and teaches elementary physics to chemistry students. He has co-organized several international conferences and summer schools. In addition to dozens of lectures in leading institutions worldwide and invited conference talks, he collaborated and advised companies in England, France, Switzerland and USA.
